Hi, I’m Thor… and I think I found my hero.
Before I met Charley, my name was Orion, and I was waiting in a shelter for someone to take a chance on me. Around that same time, Charley had been through a very hard year. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1965–1986, including time in Korea with the 101st Airborne Artillery, he built a life full of love with his wife and their dogs. But last year he lost his wife after a long illness… and soon after, he also lost his three dogs. The house felt very empty.
Charley is a lifelong dog lover, so he reached out to VCAS hoping to find a new companion.
Before they brought me out of the shelter, Charley wanted to meet me first. He said he’d know I was the right dog if I gave him kisses. Well… the moment I met him, I gently put my paws on him and gave him lots of them. That’s when Charley knew I was his dog.
He and his daughter decided I needed a superhero name, so Orion became Thor.
After spending some time with a wonderful foster family who helped me learn the ropes (including potty training!), I finally went home on February 13. As soon as I walked through the door, I ran straight to Charley with my tail wagging as fast as it could go and covered him in kisses.
He kissed me back and said, “I’m your new daddy. I’ll always take care of you and keep you safe.”
I think we both needed each other more than we knew.
