Hi, I’m Cookie… and I finally found my person.
For more than five years, I lived in a puppy mill. When I could no longer make money for them, I was taken to a shelter, and they asked that I be euthanized. However, the shelter reached out for help, and Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue stepped in to save me. They placed me with a foster family and helped me start learning what life as a loved dog could be.
Around that same time, VCAS was helping Craig find a companion. Craig is an Army veteran who served from 1983 to 1986 as a Military Police Officer, including deployments to Panama and Honduras. He lives alone and said he missed having pets and everyday companionship.
When Craig saw my story, he fell in love right away.
On Valentine’s Day, he found out he would get to meet me the following week, and he went out and bought me a teddy bear that says “Be My Valentine.”
When we met, it was perfect. Craig signed the adoption papers that day, and two days later, I went home with my new dad.
I’m still a little shy and sometimes like the comfort of my crate, but now and then I come out for kisses or hop on the couch to sit beside him. Our first night together, we curled up and watched funny dog videos.
After a long journey, I think we both found exactly who we needed.
